Lumbar Spine Motor Control: Stability, Mobility and Striking a Balance.
A two-day course will be presented on the use of motor control strategies in the treatment of lumbar spine pain disorders. Motor control disorders as one sub-classification of the low back pain population will be proposed. Evidence on the motor control changes seen in patients with low back pain, and how these can be modified with motor control interventions will be reviewed. The debate over whether low back pain treatments should seek to mobilise or stabilise painful segments will be considered in light of recent research findings. Strategies to facilitate muscle re-education and relearn normal movement patterns for different patient presentations will be demonstrated and practiced. A feature of the course will be the presentation of case studies to further enhance clinical reasoning skills.
