SPECIFIC SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION (SSTM)
Course tutor - Glenn Hunter MSc MCSP CertEd
Glenn Hunter is a Chartered physiotherapist and is the consultant in Performance Medicine with the research and innovation team at Uk sport. His main role in this post is to facilitate the delivery of medical and therapeutic innovations that have a performance impact in Olympic and paralympic sport. Previously Glenn was a principle lecturer at the University of the West of England in Bristol. His main teaching areas are clinical biomechanics, sports medicine, developing clinical reasoning and research. He has a masters degree with distinction in Sports medicine and his Ph.D. work was on the effects of stretching on the active stiffness of the Hamstring muscles. His research interests are in muscle tendon unit injury and from 2002 – 2004 he was the lead researcher on an investigation into hamstring injuries in professional football for the football association. In 2003 Glenn was the winner of the international HvU award for sports physiotherapy, which is awarded by the international federation of sports physiotherapy for outstanding achievement in this field.
Course learning objectives:
By the end of this course you should have:
§ An increased understanding of the philosophy of SSTM
§ An increased understanding of the assumptions made in the use of SSTM, and the level and types of evidence used to support and refute its use
§ An increased understanding of the physiological and biomechanical models that underpin the use of SSTM
§ An increased understanding of the principles and practice of SSTM techniques
§ An increased understanding of the synthesis between SSTM and other related therapeutic approaches

Author of Collision Sports: Injury and Repair
David Fevre qualified in 1982 from Salford School of Physiotherapy. Subsequently he worked for North Manchester Health Authority supplementing his NHS work by working for a number of Sports Injury Clinics within the private hospital sector. This lead him to become involved in professional sport and he worked for Leigh Rugby League Club ( 1984-89), Wigan Rugby League Club (1989-94), Great Britain Rugby League (1990-94), Manchester United Football Club (1994-99), Wales (2002-2005) to his present post at Blackburn Rovers FC (1999-present date) . He lectures extensively internationally and in the UK on subjects related to sports injury rehabilitation and isokinetics, has had articles published in several rehabilitation related journals and is the author of the book 'Collision Sports Injury and Repair'. He is also an honorary lecturer at UCL and University of Central Lancashire.
