PhysioFit CPD: Sports Massage (8:00AM)
We are delighted to announce, in conjunction with the Physiotherapy Department AMNCH, the next course in our Sports Physiotherapy Series
Sports Massage.

This 1-day course will give the participant the practical skills they need for safe & effective sports massage. We wish to thank the physiotherapy department at Tallaght Hospital who have very kindly made their department available at no cost allowing us to offer the course at a cost-neutral basis.

Our course presenter, Margaret Kelleher MISCP, completed her BSc Physiotherapy in UCD in 2003 and MSc Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in University of Queensland Australia in 2006. She is currently working as a Senior Physiotherapist in the out-patient department of Midland Regional Hospital, Portlaoise. Margaret also works privately in her own practice - Portlaoise Chartered Physiotherapy Clinic where the caseload is primarily musculoskeletal and sports-injured based. Margaret has gained extensive sports physiotherapy experience having worked with many Senior GAA teams in Laois and covering rugby and athletic events. She was also involved with the Australian International Developmental Cricket team in 2006.

The learning objectives of the course are:

To understand the theoretical aspects of safe and effective sports massage
To develop the practical skills required to perform safe and effective sports massage
To perform a variety of sports massage techniques in a variety of situations safely and effectively.
To develop the necessary problem solving skills required to safely and effectively use sports massage to benefit the client

Health & Safety and correct body posture for massage
Client preparation for massage and client care

Places are limited to 16 participants only! Due to the high demand for places, we cannot reserve places. Places are secured upon receipt of application form & payment.


On completion of the course, each candidate will received a CPD certificate (7.5 points) and certificate of attendance.

The Post Op Shoulder : Steps to Successful Treatment (8:00AM)
One day course Post Op Shoulder Course : Steps to Successful Treatment

AIMS:
1. To present the current literature regarding dynamic stability of the shoulder complex and explore the application to clinical assessment and treatment of the post-op shoulder.
2. To present the current literature regarding the implications of surgery on the dynamic stabilisers.
3. To explore key issues relating to structural stability of the glenohumeral joint, specific surgical procedures and the relevance to postoperative protocols.
4. To demonstrate key assessment tools to explore function of the dynamic stabilisers of the shoulder as a basis for treatment planning in the post-op shoulder.
5. To demonstrate key treatment approaches based on the current evidence to address movement restriction and dysfunction in the post-op shoulder.

Course Tutor: Jo Gibson MCSP -Clinical Physiotherapy Specialist (UK)

Jo Gibson is a Clinical Physiotherapy Specialist based at the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit at the Royal Liverpool Hospital and is also a Partner in private practice. She lectures Nationally and Internationally about assessment and rehabilitation of the shoulder complex. Her research interests are shoulder instability and motor learning. Jo is co-author of the GOST booklet, a Guide for Orthopaedic Surgeons and Therapists which details guidelines for operative and postoperative management of Upper Limb Patients. She was delighted to be one of the co-founders of the First International Congress of Shoulder Rehabilitation which took place in Washington DC in 2004 and now runs tri-annually. Jo is also a Founder Member of the North West Upper Limb Group which is an advanced education forum for upper limb therapists. Jo was elected as the Allied Health Professions representative on the British Elbow and Shoulder Society in 2006. Jo has worked as Squad Physiotherapist for the GB Endurance Riding Team for the last five years and is advisor to several elite sports teams regarding shoulder rehabilitation.
