Move4Health 2012: Move More to Fight Cancer The annual ISCP Move4Health Campaign for 2012 Move More to Fight Cancer focuses on the significant impact regular exercise can have on cancer p
reventaion and recovery. Accumulating at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity a day can make a difference to your lifetime risk of cancer, says the Irish Society for Chartered Physiotherapists who today launched a new programme to encourage people to battle cancer with exercise. There are 120,000 people living in Ireland who either have, or have had, cancer, and one in every three men and one in every four women can expect to be affected by the disease at some time in their life. This years campaign aims to get people to actively tackle cancer and to get people to recognise that in any one day accumulating at least 30 minutes of exercise could make a real difference to their cancer risk. We are also pleased to launch a new tool, the Exercise Pyramid, which was designed in partnership with the Irish Cancer Society. Speaking about the campaign: Ms. Sine Vasquez, Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in Cancer, Beaumont Hospital, said: “The Move4Health campaign takes account of the fact that everyone has heard get-fit messages before but where cancer is concerned many people aren't aware of the the value of exercise in preventing cancer." Move More to Fight Cancer will be available at a public talk in Beaumont Hospital on Wednesday 18th April where a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist will be in attendance to answer any questions.
