Event Description

This two day course is for physiotherapists already working in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology and with some experience of internal vaginal examinations. Experience of internal rectal examinations is not essential to attend the course. The course will provide insight in to the complex anatomy of the female and to a lesser extent the male pelvic floor anatomy and has a large practical component, where participants through their knowledge of anatomy will acquire skills and techniques to treat a wide variety of pelvic floor dysfunctions. Many of the techniques are muscle specific and are based on the principles of trigger point therapy described by Travell and Simons. Participants are encouraged to practice on each other in order to learn the techniques but also to experience the sensation of being palpated and to experience the changes in their own pelvic floors under the hands of the participating therapists.
