Learning Objectives

The course aims to 

  • Explore the relationship between exercise capacity and heart disease 
  • Develop skills regarding screening pre exercise testing 
  • Develop an exercise testing portfolio 
  • Allow interpretation of exercise test results 
  • Enable exercise prescription to a level to optimise cardiovascular benefit

Event Description

This is a course aimed at professionals who are involved in the exercise training component of cardiac rehabilitation.  It is a one day course designed to enhance learning in this area through lectures, workshops and practical sessions. 

Presenter Profile

Karen Cradock: 

Karen has worked extensively in cardiac rehabilitation for over 20 years in Ireland, England, New Zealand and Australia.  She currently runs phase III and phase IV cardiac rehabilitation  programmes in the community in Kildare and Dublin.  She lectures in UCD and RCSI and is physiotherpapy tutor in the Physiotherapy Hub in UCD.  

After completing her Masters in Heart Failure in 2006, Karen continued to explore the relationship between exercise and cardiovascular benefit.  She was awarded specialist member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists in 2015 in recognition of her work in cardiac rehabilitation nationally.
