Learning Objectives

Participant will learn about advanced skills in examination, diagnostics, evaluation, intervention and management of orthopaedics and traumatic conditions.
Participants will be able to explain suggestions on strategies and guidelines to facilitate the appropriate inclusion of referral for imaging for all Physiotherapists.
Participants will be able to identify eventual training needs in order of the ability to use diagnostic imaging for differential diagnosis in their Physiotherapy practice.
At the end of the day the participant will acquire knowledge on the use of the main radiological and movement analysis software investigation techniques. 

Event Description

This event organized by the ISCP Southern Branch is an opportunity for Physiotherapists to attend the presentations delivered by eminent specialists. Members of the multi-disciplinary team across orthopaedic, radiology and physiotherapy will provide you with a well-rounded foundation on some of the most challenging aspects of the MSK/ orthopaedics conditions, diagnostics and its management.

Presenter Profile

Dr. Kevin Murphy  MD, FFR(RCSI), MB BAO BCh, BMedSci is a Consultant Radiologist completing a fellowship in abdominal imaging with the University of British Columbia, Vancouver and commenced a musculoskeletal imaging fellowship in July 2016. He is also completed MD thesis. He works in the Department of Radiology at The Mercy University Hospital

Mr. Paul Kiely, MB, BCh, BAO graduated from University College Cork and completed the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland higher surgical training program in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery FRCS (Tr & Orth), during which time, he was awarded his Masters in Surgery (MCh). Mr. Kiely is an orthopaedic spine surgeon specializing in paediatric and adult scoliosis, neck and back herniations, spinal fractures, athletic injuries and spondylolysis. Mr. Kiely’s practice involves tailoring a customized approach for each patient to maximize quality of life and musculoskeletal health. 

Mr. Declan Bowler, Consultant Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Surgeon (IMC No. 18526)

  • Fellowship trained (ACGME accredited) in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the Hughston Clinic, USA
  • Irish Higher Surgical Orthopaedic Training program
  • AO Trauma fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA
  • Joint preservation and limb deformity fellowship at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopaedics in Baltimore, Maryland, USA

Dr Eanna Falvey graduated from University College Cork before working clinically and researching at Cork University Hospital. He undertook a fellowship in Sports Medicine at the University of Melbourne and completed a PhD at University College Cork.

Ms. Aisling O'Brian Chartered Physiotherapist Graduated from University of Bradford in Physiotherapy. She further developed her knowledge in Orthopaedic Medicine and Rheumatology in UK and completed her Masters in Sports medicine and exercise at University College Cork. Her research focused on ACL injury prevention using neuromuscular training programs.
