|Presenter Details||The course will be delivered by a core team of three (details included). Consultants, Nurses and additional Physiotherapists will be joining for select online sessions.
Brenda DeeringMSc, BSc (Hons), SMISCP. Brenda qualified at the University of Ulster in 2001 and has worked in COPD Outreach providing hospital, at home care and pulmonary rehabilitation services from 2005 until 2016. Brenda Joined the RIC service in 2017 and developed and established a community based respiratory physiotherapy services that included the provision of pulmonary rehabilitation. In 2019, Brenda launched the maintenance pulmonary programme in partnership with Dublin City Council to accommodate those who have completed a hospital or community-based physiotherapy led programme.As a physiotherapist lead on the National Clinical Care Programme in 2020, Brenda helped to update the programme document for pulmonary rehabilitation.
Eimear WardEimear completed her BSC honours (2:1) degree in Physiotherapy at the University of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England in 2008. She commenced her Physiotherapy career in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, Co. Louth, where she worked for 4 years, completing her staff grade rotations. Eimear worked in St. Vincent’s University hospital, Dublin, for 3 years, specialising in the area of Cystic Fibrosis as a Senior Physiotherapist for 2 years. She has experience in both acute Respiratory and ICU settings during this time and delivered Pulmonary Rehabilitation in an acute outpatient setting. Eimear is presently employed as a Senior Physiotherapist in Chronic Disease and Respiratory Integrated Care posts in Primary Care for the last 4 years. She currently is the Senior Physiotherapist for the Slaintecare project aimed at introducing a Respiratory Integrated Care service to the Beaumont hospital catchment. She has participated in research which has been presented at both the Cystic F

No late payments will be accepted. The place will be offered out.
The aim of the course is to provide continued professional development to staff grade and senior physiotherapists on the most up-to-date evidence in pulmonary rehabilitation.
Upon completion of the course the therapist will be able to:
- Complete a comprehensive assessment of a patient with COPD (to include staging and grading of disease, breathlessness assessment, oxygen assessment and inhaler technique)
- Triage appropriate patients to community pulmonary rehabilitation
- Understand the principles of exercise testing and prescription (strength and aerobic)
- Develop an individualized exercise programme
