The Pilates reformer is one of the most versatile pieces of Pilates equipment in the entire Pilates industry. It’s versatility means it is the most widely used of the larger Pilates equipment and allows a client to progress from the Matwork exercises at a much faster pace. The unique 5 spring system of the reformer means that you can begin to add resistance to the movements right from the beginner series of movement. One of the most unique aspects of the reformer is the range of positions that you can use. Exercises are taught in supine lying, kneeling, sitting, standing on the reformer, standing to the side of the reformer and much more. This ability to alter the position of the exercise to a significantly more functional and upright approach leads to excellent results for teachers and clients alike.

APPI’s reformer certification program is a 6 day program that will take you through an enormous variety of exercises and the in depth reasoning behind each and every exercise that we are so well known for. We will analyse each exercise to look at the clients performance of the movement, any dysfunction that we may see and how to assess and manage this to lead your client back to full health and wellness. The exercises will progress the exercises over the 6 days from beginner all the way to full strength and conditioning exercises.

During the course you'll learn ninety five beginner, intermediate and advanced original and APPI evolved Pilates movements, along with countless modifications and variations. Special consideration is made to movement selection, muscle recruitment and patterning, alignment, modification feedback and progression throughout the tutorials.

Whilst the theoretical workshops will develop and refine visual, tactile and audio cueing, one to one program planning, home exercise program planning and group teaching for students to develop their skills and confidence to become comprehensive and articulate teachers.

The program will look at individual teaching and 1:1 program planning as well as group reformer teaching and class planning brining in aspects of movement choreography and teaching skills to enhance and develop great 1:1 and class teachers.

Following the completion of the course you will sit a certification exam to gain your full qualification.

Level one:

The introductory program whereby we teach you everything you need to know about the ‘anatomy of the reformer’, the links between MW and reformer, how to introduce a client to the reformer and the essential safety elements of getting a client on and off the reformer. We then progress through the beginner series of movements focusing on foot series, single leg series, side series, and beginner level upper body and core work.

Level two:

A progression from Level 1 as we move into some of the intermediate movements, advancing the core exercises to begin to really strengthen and tone the core beyond that of a beginner. We begin to explore various positions on the reformer – lying, sitting, standing and split standing. We progress to higher level leg and arm strength and time work and begin to incorporate some of the more advanced mobility and stretch work.

Level three:

The final series of the reformer program as we advance towards the higher level intermediate and advanced exercises. On this program we challenge your strength, co-ordination, mobility and endurance. On this course the reformer really moves form a rehabilitation machine to a strength and conditioning machine as the isolation of various muscle groups allows us to work you to fatigue and beyond! In this program we also advance your teaching skills and look at programs around both 1:1 and group teaching sessions culminating in a great session planning workshop to ensure you are ready to go and deliver state of the art 1:1 and group sessions.
