The GLA:D (Good Life with osteoArthritis Denmark) initiative is an evidence-based exercise and education programme for patients with hip and knee osteoarthritis that has been delivered to almost 80,000 patients globally, including Denmark, Canada, Australia, China, Austria, New Zealand, Switzerland, Germany and now, Ireland. This programme has shown effectiveness for improving patient outcomes (e.g. pain, function, quality of life) and cost-effectiveness in clinical practice. This course will allow physiotherapists across Ireland and across healthcare settings, to become GLA:D certified physiotherapists.

This is a hybrid blended course with 6-7 hours of educational content to be completed online prior to one in-person practical day with GLA:D tutors at the University of Limerick.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the latest research on the degenerative process associated with osteoarthritis.
  • Understand the latest knowledge and evidence on osteoarthritis management strategies.
  • How neuromuscular exercises can be used in the context of osteoarthritic changes.
  • How to assist individuals to implement the neuromuscular stability into their every day lives.
  • Processes for registering programme participants in the GLA:D® Ireland database.
  • How to implement the programme at a clinic, in a hospital, or in another appropriate setting.
