From Symptoms to Solutions Series
Join us for this four-part series that invites you to rethink your approach to 24-hour postural care. We'll explore the game-changing transition from product-focused solutions to a human-first mindset that prioritises understanding the body’s structural needs related to function and participation. Learn how a comprehensive, hands-on assessment leads to more effective seating solutions by targeting the root causes of postural challenges.
"From Symptoms to Solutions" is a comprehensive series designed to transform your approach to 24-hour postural care by shifting the focus from products to a deep understanding of the human body. Through a series of interactive sessions, we'll guide you step-by-step in assessing and addressing the root causes of postural challenges, not just their symptoms. From foundational principles in human-centred care to the intricacies of pelvic alignment, range of motion, and scoliosis, each part of the series builds on the previous one while also standing strong on its own.
Whether you attend one session or the entire series, you'll gain valuable insights and practical tools to create more effective and lasting solutions for postural care in wheelchair seating and beyond.
The following online sessions are included in this series subscription:
27th January: A Human-Centered Approach to Postural Care - Differentiate between human-first and technology-first approaches to clinical decision-making. - Identify symptoms vs. root causes in postural challenges. - Understand the role of the pelvis as the base of support. - Recognise common issues with product-focused solutions when structural limitations are present. - Discuss the consequences of overlooking the human-first approach.
10th February: Pelvic Foundations: Understanding the Core of Postural Alignment - Understand pelvic anatomy and key landmarks. - Learn the language of pelvic orientation (tilt, obliquity, rotation). - Explore root causes of pelvic misalignment in seating. - Apply insights to identify and prescribe optimal seating solutions.
24th February: Range of Motion Redefined: Focusing on Resting Length in Postural Care - Define range of motion and its importance in 24-hour postural care. - Identify relevant assessment methods for resting range of motion and why standardised measures often fall short. - Understand the principle of "the body always wins" and how to respect and accommodate its natural state. - Recognise compensatory patterns that arise when resting positions are not respected. - Apply a kinetic chain approach to understand how structural limitations impact overall alignment and function.
10th March: Untangling Scoliosis: Structural vs. Compensatory Curves - Differentiate between structural and compensatory scoliosis and understand the key distinctions in their causes and presentations. - Recognise how limitations at the pelvis or hips can contribute to spinal asymmetries and what to look for during assessment. - Understand the impact of body position (sitting, standing, supine) on scoliosis and how this affects the approach to interventions and seating solutions.
Each session is live with a 72 hour playback, registration for each session must be done after purchasing this subscription before each session begins. Please note each person viewing and participating in this course must register. For groups of 4+, please contact [email protected] for discounts.
