Job Purpose: The Physiotherapy Graduate Placement Programme has been developed to provide remunerated competency training, work experience, mentorship and support for recent graduate physiotherapists.   Once mandatory and clinical competencies in Orthopaedics, Respiratory and Cardiothoracic physiotherapy have been successfully achieved, there will be an opportunity to apply for a locum contract to provide physiotherapy clinical care through assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients within the specialist In-Patient Units, Day Surgery and the Intensive Care Unit

Hours of work available: 16 hours per weekend / variable over weekdays.

The Role: Assess, analyse and provide a clinical diagnosis for individual patients to determine their need for physiotherapy intervention within specialist areas of:

  • Orthopaedics and Trauma
  • Acute Respiratory (ICU/CCU, General and Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracics)
  • Acute General Medicine and Rehabilitation
  • Neurosciences as appropriate
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, treat and progress patient care to maximise rehabilitation potential within each specialist area.
  • Manage caseload of patients effectively and efficiently, ensuring support is sought with complex cases.
  • Maintain patient documentation, records and accurate statistical information to reflect care provided and meet professional standards.
  • Communicate and make recommendations to all relevant disciplines of staff to maximise patient care and promote multidisciplinary working.
  • Assist as required in the weekend physiotherapy on-call service
  • To participate in departmental continuous professional development, education and training, audit and evidence-based projects.
  • Liaise with a range of individuals, internal and external to the organisation, to ensure effective service delivery.

The Candidate:

  • Degree in Physiotherapy  (Essential) or currently in final year of study for a qualification approved by the Physiotherapists Registration Board at CORU see
  • Must be registered with CORU or eligible for membership upon completion of study or in the process of applying for state registration.
  • Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) membership (Desirable)
  • Relevant Post Graduate Courses (Respiratory, Neurosciences, Musculoskeletal) (Desirable)
  • Good communicator
  • Team worker
  • Ability to work independently
