Physiotherapist (Weekend work) (Location: Galway Clinic, Doughiska, Galway)

Job Purpose: The Physiotherapy Graduate Placement Programme Has Been Developed To Provide Work Experience, Mentorship, Support And Competency Training For Recent Graduate Physiotherapists.   Once Clinical Competencies Have Been Successfully Achieved In Orthopaedics, Respiratory And Cardiothoracic Physiotherapy, There Will Be An Opportunity To Apply For A Remunerated Locum Contract To Provide Physiotherapy Clinical Care Through Assessment, Diagnosis And Treatment Of Patients Within The Specialist In-Patient Units, Day Surgery And The Intensive Care Unit

Hours Of Weekend Work Available: 16 Hours Per Week

The Role: Assess, Analyse And Provide A Clinical Diagnosis For Individual Patients To Determine Their Need For Physiotherapy Intervention Within Specialist Areas Of: Orthopaedics And Trauma, Acute Respiratory (ICU/CCU, General And Vascular Surgery, Cardiothoracics), Acute General Medicine And Rehabilitation, Neurosciences As Appropriate

  • Plan, Implement, Evaluate, Treat And Progress Patient Care To Maximise Rehabilitation Potential Within Each Specialist Area.
  • Manage Caseload Of Patients Effectively And Efficiently, Ensuring Support Is Sought With Complex Cases.
  • Maintain Patient Documentation, Records And Accurate Statistical Information To Reflect Care Provided And Meet Professional Standards.
  • Communicate And Make Recommendations To All Relevant Disciplines Of Staff To Maximise Patient Care And Promote Multidisciplinary Working.
  • Assist As Appropriate In The Weekend Physiotherapy on-call service
  • To Participate In Departmental Continuous Professional Development, Education And Training, Audit And Evidence-based Projects.
  • Liaise With A Range Of Individuals, Internal And External To The Organisation, To Ensure Effective Service Delivery.


The Candidate:

  • Degree In Physiotherapy (Essential)
  • CORU Registration (Essential)
  • Irish Society Of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) Membership (Desirable)
  • Relevant Post Graduate Courses (Respiratory, Neurosciences, Musculoskeletal) (Desirable)
  • Good Communicator
  • Team Worker
  • Ability To Work Independently
