ISCP welcomes COVID recognition payment

The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists has welcomed the news that physiotherapists in the public health service will receive a €1,000 payment

ISCP CEO Ruaidhri O'Connor said:"The ISCP welcomes the Government announcement of a COVID-19 recognition payment for healthcare workers. This is an acknowledgement of the dedication of all physiotherapists and health care colleagues working in COVID-19 exposed health care environments during this extraordinary time."

In a recent survey (November 2021) of health settings, physiotherapists in over half of the 40 sites surveyed (57.5%) had contracted COVID-19 and in the affected sites, 17.2% of the physiotherapists had contracted COVID-19. The survey was completed before the omicron virus was detected in Ireland. The ISCP stated it was an additional challenge and burden for members who got COVID-19 to return to COVID exposed areas and praised their resilience.

The ISCP is also proud of the flexibility and adaptability shown by members working in public and private sectors who quickly changed the way they provided their services  in order to continue to treat patients including those with post COVID and Long COVID.

The ISCP will consider the details of the pandemic bonus in full when it receives them from Government.
