About this course:

This is a 2 day (15 hour) CPD course that introduces the physiotherapist to myofascialtrigger point (MTrP) pain and dysfunction concepts including practical application of top 20 common muscles. This course is based upon the pioneering work of Travelland Simons and is an evidenced informed academic and practical approach to the management of patients with primary and secondary myofascialtrigger point pain.

This course has immediate clinical application

Content includes:

•History of the development of trigger point concepts (Travelland Simons)
•Muscle physiology relevant to trigger points
•Thee unique neurobiology of muscle pain
•Incidence of trigger points
•Biomedical and pain sciences models - peripheral and central sensitisation
•Trigger point definition
•Clinical features of trigger points, and Trigger point signs and symptoms
•Types of trigger points
•Trigger point palpation techniques
•Trigger point pathogenesis and scientific evidence
•The integrated hypothesis of trigger point formation
•Causes of trigger point / Perpetuating factors relevant to trigger points
•Review of selected treatment options for management of trigger points:
Manual therapy, ice and stretch, modalities, TrP dry needling, stretch, strength etc
Education, safety, documentation, post treatment soreness

Demonstration and manual practical hands on practice for 20 common muscles


Presenter Profile

About the teacher:

Dr Johnson McEvoy MISCP, PT, DPT is a clinical physiotherapist who has been teaching trigger point therapy since 2003 and TrPDNcourses since 2006. he has taught over 100 courses. He has published chapters and research papers on myofascialpain including a systematic review of trigger point palpation reliability.  He recently edited three chapters of the new and third edition of the Travelland Simons Manuals. He works in private practice.
