Event Description

During this highly interactive series, as well as covering the theory of leadership and change, participants will engage in whole-class discussions, small group work and experiential project work. Participants will attend four evening sessions and complete a change project in their workplace. Participants should have an idea of a change project that they would like to implement in their workplace when starting the course.

The structure of this programme will be as follows:

Session 1(2nd April 2019) - An introduction to leadership concepts and theory

Session 2(9th April 2019) - Evaluating your leadership strengths

Session 3(16th April 2019) - Change theory and models in healthcare

Session 4(16th July 2019) - Feedback session on the change initiatives implemented in your workplace

This programme will allow participants to immediately apply the skills they learn to their everyday work practices. Following session 3, participants will have 3 months to complete a change project in their workplace. Each participant will identify and plan a change initiative or quality improvement plan in their workplace. They will then present the results of their project and their reflections on their experience of implementing the change in session 4.

The change project may be on anything of interest to the participant but should fall within one of three categories:

  • A change in practice or delivery within a service
  • A quality improvement initiative
  • Innovation within an existing service

The combination of learning theory and applying it in their work environment will allow participants to develop leadership capabilities appropriate to their situation and also enable them to effectively drive change and improvement both immediately and in the future.
