Event Description


The Phase 1 Strength & Conditioning Course is specifically aimed at Physiotherapists who want to gain a greater understanding of Strength & Conditioning for exercise intervention strategies. It is an introductory 3 day course which provides participants with the fundamentals of Strength & Conditioning and how to apply these coaching skills in the practical setting.

Phase 1 is the first part of the National Certificate in Strength & Conditioning (NCSC) qualication, which is now the industry standard Strength & Conditioining certification course in Ireland. During the Phase 1 Course, participants are introduced to a system of training which provides a roadmap for best practice. Participants will learn movement screening and corrective exercises, performance testing and profiling, linear speed, Olympic lifting, plyometrics, program design, periodisation and much more.

Presenter Profile

Karl Gilligan is the founder and CEO of KG Elite Performance. In 2012, he devised the National Certificate in Strength & Certificate (NCSC) course which has now become the industry leader in Strength & Conditioning Certification across Europe. To date, the NCSC Course is now delivered extensively in six countries worldwide. 
He graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science and an MSc in Strength & Conditioning from St. Mary’s University, London, UK. He was the first formally accredited member of the Irish Institute of Sport (IIS) in Strength and Conditioning and is also a professional member with the NSCA (CSCS). His research interests include movement screens for injury prevention, power development and speed biomechanics.
Karl has extensive experience working in elite sport having worked with the Ireland U-19 Rugby Team, Leinster Rugby, Olympic athletes, professional golfers, boxers and inter-county GAA football teams. He was a keen sportsman during his playing days having represented his province Connacht in Rugby at all under age levels as well as London Irish U-19 & Development, University of Queensland in Australia, as well as various AIL teams in Ireland. In addition, Karl represented his county Sligo at all underage levels in Gaelic Football as well as his province Connacht in Tennis and played at many age grade National Championships in Dublin.
