Learning Objectives


Upon completion, participants should be able to 

· Identify Myofascial Trigger Points of the muscles covered and recognise their referral pattern.

· Understand the role of TMJ muscles’ Trigger points in Orofacial pain, Headache and TMJ dysfunction.

· Understand the role of Sternocleidomastoid and other muscles in chronic neck pain conditions, post whiplash syndromes and how to deactivate those trigger points and successfully rehabilitate.

· Understand the upper limb symptoms including shoulder dysfunctions caused directly or indirectly by trigger points of pectorals and other upper limb muscles.

· Manage conditions like Tennis Elbow, Arthritic hands differently.

· Incorporate new techniques to manage many leg, ankle and foot symptoms in addition to biomechanical intervention. 

· Understand indications, contraindications and procedures of Electro-Dry needling.


Event Description


This course is for clinicians who aim to advance their skills in ‘Trigger Point Dry Needling’of smaller and trickier muscles. This will give clinicians a whole new prospective of managing many common conditions those are managed otherwise and open up new scope of practice. Emphasis will be given on integrating new skills with traditional manual therapy techniques. Many real case studies are included to enhance the clinical reasoning skills.  

·     TMJ Muscles including Sternocleidomastoids.

·     Pectorals, Arm, Forearm and Hand Muscles.

·     Thoracic extensors and Abdominals.

·     Lateral and Anterior Compartment muscles of leg, and muscles of foot. 

·     Electro-Dry Needling of trigger points.


As this is an advanced level course, the participants MUSThave some needling experience. The basics of needling, neuro-physiology, safety aspects etc. will not be covered at this level. Participants of this course MUST have completed Introductory/Foundation level course in trigger point dry needling.  It doesn’t matter who the previous course provider was. Participant MUSThave a valid professional indemnity insurance (personal / work based) covering training and practice of dry needling, and will need to sign a document indemnifying the course lecturer, assistant & host.


·     Coloured course manualcontaining detailed anatomical illustrations, trigger point referral patterns and photographs and description of needling techniques. 

·      Current evidences in Trigger Point Dry Needling in common musculoskeletal conditions.  

Presenter Profile

Sourjit Moharana is a Chartered Physiotherapist and Clinical Specialist in Musculoskeletal Therapy. He graduated in physiotherapy with a degree from SVNIRTAR, India in 1998. He worked in various hospitals and rehabilitation centers in India before migrating to Ireland in 2003. He started his work in Waterford Regional Hospital (University Hospital Waterford) and later moved to Waterford Primary Care and continues to work as a Senior Physiotherapist. He completed Post-Graduate Diploma in Orthopaedic Manual Therapy in 2004 from Curtin University, Australia, and Master of Manual Therapy in 2010 from The University of Western Australia. His focus is in musculoskeletal physiotherapy field and has a special interest in sub-acute and chronic / complex musculoskeletal conditions. He is a life-member of Indian Association of Physiotherapist and member of Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapist. He holds Level II membership of International Federation of Orthopaedic Manipulative Physical Therapists (IFOMPT). Besides his clinical job, he is lecturing in Dry Needling courses throughout Ireland, UK & India. He has lectured in more than 50 Dry Needling Courses and trained hundreds of clinicians in Introductory and Advanced levels. His focus is to integrate myofascial pain and dry needling concept with traditional manual therapy assessment and treatment techniques to achieve maximum therapeutic effect.
