Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy for Endometriosis: Assessment, Treatment, and Care - HSCP Funded

Venue: Mullingar (TBC)

Dates: September 2026 (TBC)

Format: 2 consecutive days, in-person

Cost: €20

EOI to open: July 2026

Participant allocation:

This is a unidisciplinary event organised by the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). The course has been funded by the HSCP Office, HSE.

As such, places are available to physiotherapists in the publicly funded healthcare service only.

Background:

Pelvic health has been consistently identified as a learning need by Chartered Physiotherapists. Previous bladder and bowel courses were oversubscribed, evidencing demand. Endometriosis-specific training has been requested by physiotherapists in Pelvic Health and Continence.

Endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting about 10% globally and an estimated 155,000 women in Ireland.

The course equips physiotherapists to assess and manage pelvic floor dysfunction associated with endometriosis, supporting evidence-based practice, improving access to timely care, and reducing unnecessary referrals. The 2026 delivery will incorporate evaluation findings from the 2025 programme and emphasise reflective practice and documentation to support CORU requirements.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Pelvic Floor Anatomy in Endometriosis: explain how endometriosis impacts pelvic floor structure and function.

  • Bladder Dysfunction and Endometriosis: identify common bladder dysfunctions linked to endometriosis.

  • Urinary Incontinence in Endometriosis: describe factors contributing to incontinence in individuals with endometriosis.

  • Screening and Outcome Measures: develop screening tools and select measures for endometriosis-related pelvic floor dysfunction.

  • Summarise effective treatments for incontinence in patients with endometriosis.

  • Identify best practices for a clinical environment tailored to endometriosis care.

  • Progression to Functional Movements and plan exercise programmes for recovery and return to activity in patients with pelvic floor dysfunction.

  • Perform external and internal assessments specific to endometriosis-related pelvic floor issues.

  • Create individualised care plans using evidence-based clinical reasoning.

  • Recognise when and how to refer patients with endometriosis to other specialists.
