Presenter Details Dr. Eimear Ruane-McAteer, Clinical Psychologist
Dr Eimear Ruane-McAteer is a Clinical Psychologist due to complete her training in September 2026. Eimear is currently completing her advanced practice placement in the Clinical Health Psychology Department of Mercy University Hospital supporting patients referred from oncology, chronic pain, and urology.
Prior to clinical psychology training, Eimear was a health researcher in Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) and University College Cork (UCC) across various healthcare areas, including psycho-oncology, suicide and self-harm, sexual health, and health inequalities. Eimear teaches psychology with the Open University and is a graduate member of the Psychological Society of Ireland.

This webinar will include presentation of findings from Dr Eimear Ruane-McAteer’s research conducted in the urology department of the Mercy University Hospital, Cork. The research involved recruiting and screening urology outpatients for exposure to traumatic life events and to identify their support needs when attending hospital urology appointments. Urology healthcare staff were interviewed to gather their views and experiences of managing trauma in the urology setting. Research findings will be discussed including recommendations for improvements in patient care. Attendees are invited to contribute to discussion around challenges and opportunities to implementing trauma-informed care in healthcare settings.
