| Presenter Details | This two-day course is created and delivered by Jo Montgomery, Physiotherapy Manager, and Liam Roberts, Advanced Clinical Practitioner at The Physio Group. Together, they bring more than 40 years of combined MSK experience. Liam has over 15 years’ experience in private practice and has previously lectured in physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University. Jo has more than 15 years’ experience in high-performance sport, working with professional, Olympic, and Commonwealth athletes. Their current private practice work applies this specialist expertise to the wider clinical population, supporting effective management of both common and complex spinal conditions. |

This course is designed to introduce and develop physiotherapists’ knowledge of spinal pathology, assessment, and treatment of common conditions. It is ideal for newly qualified physiotherapists and those looking to strengthen their musculoskeletal knowledge and confidence in managing spinal patients.
This course focuses on the core skills of subjective and objective assessment, applied anatomy, and spinal pathology. It supports the development of clinical reasoning to create patient-centred treatment and management plans informed by NICE guidelines and current clinical practice recommendations.
Guiding the physiotherapists though patient centred assessments based on current research and clinical experience of advanced practitioners. Underpinning the core principles of patient centred care, through safe effective manual therapy and rehab principles.

Course Aims and Objectives
Aim: Present foundational skills of assessment, treatment and management of spinal conditions in the clinical setting.
Objectives:
Understand the importance of the subjective assessment, undertaking efficient patient history with real time patient feedback, unpinning the development of the therapeutic relationship.
Develop fundamental skills in the objective assessment of the spine, including strategies to structure the process to assist with extracting the key findings.
Enhance understanding of the detailed the anatomy of the spine and common spinal pathology.
Explore clinical reasoning strategies to form differential diagnoses and formation of working hypothesis for diagnosis, prognosis and outline treatment and management plan for common spinal conditions.
Enhance palpatory skills of spine including main bony landmarks, joints and supporting musculature.
Application of safe (patient consented) manual therapy techniques for analgesic response and change in movement quality and range.
Understand dosage and grading of accessory and physiological mobilisation of treatment techniques.
Have the ability to prescriptive of basic mobility and early stage rehab exercises for various spinal conditions, based on patient status and daily activity work related needs.
