| Presenter Details | BRONAGH QUINN - Neuro and vestibular Physiotherapist.Bronagh Quinn trained in Belfast, Ireland, graduating in 1988 before working in Manchester, England for 2 years. She emigrated to New Zealand in 1990. Her primary interest is in the “dizzy patient”, whatever the cause.She has trained through the Emory University, Atlanta in vestibular rehab and has attended numerous courses on concussion assessment and management over the years in New Zealand. She is also trained as an Ovio Mindfulness facilitator and a trauma therapist using FACT and somatic strategies. She has trained through PNZ as a clinical supervisor and provides supervision to several physiotherapists.Bronagh has a mixed caseload of neuro, brain injury and vestibular clients and clients requiring breathing re-education using the BradCliff Method and mindfulness. She also works with clients recovering from emotional trauma, providing mindfulness and trauma therapy.Bronagh has taught vestibular rehab courses throughout New Zealand, teaches mindfulness classes, provides clinical supervision, and has blended her vast knowledge and experience into a teaching course with her husband, Dusty Quinn into “the physiotherapist’s role in assessment and management of concussion” which they have been teaching in New Zealand for the past 6 years. This course will incorporate a mixture of learning, a review of the current literature, practical assessments of the cervical spine, the occulomotor system, the vestibular system, neurosensitivity and the cardiovascular system, and treatment techniques and management of concussion.
Learning Outcomes:
1. To understand how the different body systems influence the concussion presentation.
2. To understand the impact medical conditions could have on concussion.
3. To understand the impact of mental health could have on the prognosis of concussion.
4. To understand the impact of repeated concussion.
5. To be able to conduct a comprehensive patient history and quantify the information.
6. To be able to conduct a comprehensive objective assessment that includes:
A. The oculomotor system
B. The Vestibular system
C. Neurosensitivity
D. The cervical spine
E. The cardiovascular system
7. To be able to set up a comprehensive management plan.
8. To integrate treatment techniques into the management plan.
9. To set up a return to work / return to school / return to sport programme.
