Presenter Details James Welch graduated in 2001 with BSc(Hons) Podiatry degree from University College London (UCL) and The London Foot Hospital. Since then he has worked in both the private sector and NHS where he currently holds the post of Advanced Specialist Podiatrist in Musculoskeletal Biomechanics and Paediatrics. In 2018 James completed his Masters degree in the Principles of Podiatric Surgery from the University of Brighton, with a dissertation focusing on the role of steroid injections for plantar fasciitis. In 2019, James was one of the co-contributor's to the Paediatric Podiatry Clinical Framework 2019 final.pdf.
 
James has lectured internationally for a number of years, as a guest lecturer for Glasgow Caledonian University and is the current vice chair of the Children’s Podiatry Special Advisory Group. He has a special interest in hypermobility, paediatric flat foot and calcaneal apophysitis (Inaccuracies about calcaneal apophysitis) James is currently one of the Deputy Professional Editors for the Royal College of Podiatry magazine ‘The Podiatrist’.
 
In 2023, James received the Gold Medal Award from the Royal College of Podiatry for his sustained and significant impact in the field of paediatric podiatry.
 
He spends his spare time with his wife and two children, generally somewhere outdoors.

This HSE and Podiatry Ireland co-funded event will host James Welch for a 3 part interdisciplinary series on Paediatric Gait Assessment. 

The first lecture on “Paediatric development and assessment - an understanding of paediatric development and neurological assessment (including red flags)” will be held online on Wednesday 8th May 2024 at 8pm.
