Katherine O'Brien

Public Health Service (incl. Voluntary Public Hospitals)

As a Clinical Specialist Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, I am passionate in providing specialist care in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of pelvic floor dysfunctions for individuals across all life stages. My patient centred care approach is evidence-based and is aimed at restoring function, improving management of pain, and enhancing overall quality of life.

My assessment and treatments include:

  • Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation: Specialising in the management of pelvic floor dysfunctions, including urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and sexual dysfunction. I offer personalised treatment plans that may include pelvic floor muscle training, biofeedback, manual therapy, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Menopause Care: Supporting and educating women through their menopause with a focus on pelvic floor muscle health and rehabilitation to reduce symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. Sign posting women to evidence-based information and education and referring women to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team for ongoing care as required.
  • Pre- and Postnatal Care: Supporting women during pregnancy and postpartum, addressing issues such as pelvic girdle pain, abdominal rehabilitation and postpartum recovery. I work closely with mothers to facilitate a safe return to exercise and improve postpartum pelvic health.
  • Persistent Pelvic Pain Management: Developing holistic treatment strategies for individuals suffering from persistent pelvic pain, including conditions such as endometriosis, bladder pain syndrome, and painful sex. I use a combination of manual therapy, education around pain management, and relaxation exercises to help improve management of symptoms.
  • Men’s Pelvic Health: Providing specialised care for men experiencing pelvic floor issues such as post-prostatectomy incontinence, pelvic pain, and erectile dysfunction, with a focus on rehabilitation and quality of life improvement.
  • Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Working closely with gynaecologists, urologists, and other healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive, integrated care for optimal patient outcomes.

I am passionate about educating patients, empowering them with knowledge and techniques to manage their pelvic health independently. My goal is to create a safe, supportive environment where every individual feels comfortable addressing their pelvic health concerns and achieving their goals.
