ISCP welcomes announcement on Chief HSCP Officer role in Department of Health

After a long advocacy campaign, the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) is warmly welcoming the announcment from the Minister that the role of Chief Health and Social Care Professions (HSCP) Officer is being established within the Department of Health.

President of the ISCP, Catherine Mc Loughlin said “This is a most welcome and important development, coming as it does, after years of advocacy work from our member organisation.”

“A key advantage of having a Chief HSCP officer in the HSE is representation at department head level for the second-largest workforce in the health services. HSCPs are key players in meeting Sláintecare reforms and now our contributions will be clearly recognised. This also allows for much-needed workforce planning to educate, recruit, and retain HSCPs in the health service, allow for expansion of services for patients and finally see the delivery of Advanced Practice for HSCPs. This is good news for patients, and it is good news for our profession."

CEO of the ISCP Rúaidhrí O’Connor said “Reinstating this role has been a key focus of our membership of the Health and Socials Care Professions Alliance (HSCPA), to align us with the structures of our colleagues in Medicine and Nursing. We would like to thank our HSPCA colleagues and the work of the Minister in securing this key role. ”
