Who we are
CPAPNG members are fully qualified Chartered Physiotherapists who have undertaken further training and/or have an interest in animal physiotherapy.
Chartered Physiotherapists have worked for many decades in veterinary practice. The Chartered Physiotherapists in Veterinary Practice (CPVP) was established in 2008 as a Clinical Interest Group (CIG) of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. In subsequent years, the membership number fell below that required for a CIG and it was disbanded by the Board. It became a Niche Group and was formally recognised as the Chartered Physiotherapists in Animal Practice Niche Group (CPAPNG) in 2020. It held its inaugural meeting on 21st January 2020, where its Terms of Reference were adopted. They were subsequently approved by the Board.
Members will call themselves Animal Chartered Physiotherapists.
What we do
We strive to enhance the standard of Animal Physiotherapy by promoting excellence through ongoing education and professional development. Our mission includes raising awareness of the profession’s benefits among physiotherapists, animal professionals, and the public. We foster strong collaboration between Chartered Physiotherapists, industry professionals, and regulatory bodies. We ensure that our members are working within their scope of practice and we act as an advisory body to which members and the public may apply for advice regarding matters specific to Animal physiotherapy.
We provide clinical guidance, expert knowledge and specialist skills in the provision of therapeutic intervention in the assessment and treatment of animals. Additionally, we advocate for high educational standards and contribute to shaping policies and regulations governing animal physiotherapy in Ireland and beyond.
